Tomorrow I am meeting with my supervisor at Mariner's Inn for my evaluation. I am a bit nervous considering my schedule has fluctuated due to my work schedule.
We have discussed a more "fluid" future schedule for students if need be and will be discussed in further detail during the meeting tomorrow. Maybe the solution to students with rigorous work schedules is to gather materials for Mariner's at Arts and Scraps (we plan on doing that) or to design art projects that would be simple and easy for another art therapist to work with.
Aside, from the book proposal for them, these are some of the thoughts and ideas to be discussed further to insure time for WSU students is effective and well spent.

Returning to the D
After an extended Thanksgiving holiday, I have returned back to my routine here and made contact with Mariner's Inn to volunteer tomorrow. We are handing in our evaluations tomorrow and I have yet to accomplish everything at Mariner's I have set out to do. The main thing is writing a book proposal to submit to Wayne State Press for them. This would be a book that shows the bright and broad history of Mariner's as one of the leading recovery programs in the country that is right here in downtown Detroit.
Focus will be on the art, writing and work that is done in this program in hopes of inspiring other recovery facilities to implement many facets of Mariner's success model.
How would a book like this be printed and sold? Well, that is one of the main issues at hand for me. I have pondered who the reader demographic will be and continue to do so. Stay tuned on this answer in my next blog this week. I'd rather give a more concrete answer then rather than brainstorming my ideas here for all to be bored with.

This Week and Happy Thanksgiving!
Tomorrow is my last day at Mariner's Inn for the holiday. I will be leaving town to be with my family and travel to see friends up in New England.
I hope to have all my hours done at Mariner's soon and may very possibly have done so, however, I haven't kept track of my hours as well as I should. I enjoy my time there and have forgotten to notice the hours spent there.
Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Jennifer Quigley

Last Thursday
Hi Everyone,
Last Thursday, upon permission of my point person at Mariner's Inn, I took one of my classmates who lives in the WSU area without a car to see what we are doing at Mariner's. Again, with permission from my point person, she took pictures of the art and was amazed by what has been created there by the staff and clientel.
It was a short stay, but one that was well worth the time to "show off" Mariner's to another classmate.

Last Thursday
Last Thursday, I got called into work. This was something of a concern committing to an outside organization, however, they are aware that I have a job and enjoy keeping my job while school is in session. It has been difficult juggling so many balls and find that I am exhausted at least one day a week that I can barely keep my eyes open. Luckily, I manage to find one day for that down time and sometimes more. Just seems that everything falls on the exact same days, which is good for a day off, but not so hot when I literally need to be two places at the same time.
Tomorrow I am free to go to Mariners Inn and usually Tuesday is just fine. It is later in the week that I have an occasional conflict. I wish there were other times I could go besides in the morning. I may discuss that possible option with them tomorrow.

My Day at Mariner's.
Today I worked on the book purposal for Mariner's Inn in one of the small conference rooms. While doing so, I made myself available to two clients who are preparing for their GRE's. They are very eager and I have helped the one client before. As soon as he saw me walk in the door he was locked and loaded with his books, papers and questions for me. There was no way I could just work on the book proposal. There is plenty of time at home to be alone with my computer. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live alone in order to focus on my papers for the sememster.
Following tutoring, I spoke with two of the women that come in to do art therapy with the clients and we discussed a few ideas that I volunteered time to help with.
One of the supervisors and I are going to Arts and Scraps this weekend to pick out materials and see what we can get within their budget for some group projects.
Thursday is my first creative writing workshop. Will write more on that Thursday.
Thanks for reading!

Blog #2 - Mariner's Inn
Hi Everybody!,
Yes, here it is Saturday night and doing school work. Sure that sounds familiar to many of my other wonderful class mates.
Mariner's Inn has proved to be challenging and exciting venture. I now am feeling like I am getting more comfortable and acclimated to my surroundings. The most challenging aspect for me is that they expect me to know where to go, how to get the clients attentions and to begin working with them.
This past week, I asked the pertinent questions and feel that next Tuesday I will have a greater sense of confidence and knowledge of what to do. At least, that is what I am hoping.
We are going to do a creative writing workshop on Thursday's and Tuesdays are still pretty open as of now with assisting with art therapy sessions.
We have discussed writing a book on Mariner's Inn and submitting the book proposal to Wayne State Press per a meeting I had with a representative of Wayne State. I do know not to submit unsolicited book proposals. :) That being said, they are encouraging me to find a quiet conference room on Tuesday's and begin working on that.
I enjoy the people and have great empathy for many of them. I feel very grateful to my parents for being supportive and loving people; something I sense many of these gentlemen have not experienced.
That's about it for now!

Intro to Art Therapy
Driving home tonight from Art Therapy: Intro and Ethics, I could think of all of 5 things at once.
1. I have to start a blog (clinching steering wheel a bit tighter) 2. That I think a 4.0 is much easier when one is an unemployed workaholic with an absent personal life or perhaps even a social isolationist, which I'm not any of these at the moment.
3. How much I look forward to getting to know everyone in my class and department.
4. It is a rainy, chilly day in Detroit and I am leaving for Tucson tomorrow.
5. I have to start a blog.
